Phylogenetic position of the deep-sea snail family Haloceratidae and new insights into caenogastropod relationships

چکیده

ABSTRACT The phylogenetic position of Haloceratidae, a little-known family the subclass Caenogastropoda, is contested due to its extreme rarity in bathyal waters worldwide (c. 800–3,500 m deep). Haloceratids share several morphological and ecological traits with members Vanikoroidea, Tonnoidea, Capuloidea Velutinoidea, were provisionally included Vanikoroidea based on absence certain apomorphic features latter three taxa. Here, we first investigate molecular data from both recognized genera, Haloceras Zygoceras. Reconstruction nuclear mitochondrial gene sequences suggests that Haloceratidae constitute sister clade Capulidae two families collectively form superfamily Capuloidea. This united large, robust Calyptraeoidea, Tonnoidea Neogastropoda. Cypraeoidea, as previously conceived, was found be polyphyletic; propose new concepts Cypraeoidea (including Cypraeidae Ovulidae) Velutinoidea Velutinidae, Eratoidae Triviidae). topology also confirms polyphyly taxa ‘echinospira’ type larvae (Echinospirida). resemblance these polyphyletic highlights parallel acquisition response same selective pressures.

Comprehensive transcriptome analysis provides new insights into nutritional strategies and phylogenetic relationships of chrysophytes

BACKGROUND Chrysophytes are protist model species in ecology and ecophysiology and important grazers of bacteria-sized microorganisms and primary producers. However, they have not yet been investigated in detail at the molecular level, and no genomic and only little transcriptomic information is available. Chrysophytes exhibit different trophic modes: while phototrophic chrysophytes perform onl...

Phylogenetic Relationships among Deep-Sea and Chemosynthetic Sea Anemones: Actinoscyphiidae and Actinostolidae (Actiniaria: Mesomyaria)

Sea anemones (Cnidaria, Actiniaria) are present in all marine ecosystems, including chemosynthetic environments. The high level of endemicity of sea anemones in chemosynthetic environments and the taxonomic confusion in many of the groups to which these animals belong makes their systematic relationships obscure. We use five molecular markers to explore the phylogenetic relationships of the sup...

First Insights into the Viral Communities of the Deep-sea Anoxic Brines of the Red Sea

The deep-sea brines of the Red Sea include some of the most extreme and unique environments on Earth. They combine high salinities with increases in temperature, heavy metals, hydrostatic pressure, and anoxic conditions, creating unique settings for thriving populations of novel extremophiles. Despite a recent increase of studies focusing on these unusual biotopes, their viral communities remai...
